Topics related to DNA tests and DNA analysis raise many questions in the minds of our customers. We are glad that many customers are not afraid to ask, write us a message or call and get information.
We aim to answer all customer questions openly, explain everything step by step and argue every objection with facts. Even if you are not currently considering purchasing a test, we are happy if you are just interested in the topic of DNA tests and the benefits that knowing your own genetic predispositions brings. We have prepared answers to the 10 most frequently asked questions from our customers.
1. Is a DNA test also suitable for a child?
Yes, it is. Our DNA tests have no age limit. They are suitable for newborns, children, adolescents, adults and seniors. Since it is a non-invasive, painless saliva sample collection with a swab from the oral cavity, there is nothing to worry about. For us, the sooner you know your genetic predispositions, the better. That is why the decision to have your children have a DNA test can be a good decision. Moreover, the primary sequence of our DNA generally does not change during life, and therefore such an analysis only needs to be done once in a lifetime.
2. Can I take a DNA test during pregnancy?
Yes, the DNA test is also suitable for pregnant women. During pregnancy, there is no change in the primary DNA sequence of the mother. Therefore, it is possible to perform saliva sampling and subsequent DNA analysis even in pregnant women.
3. Can I find out my origin and the origin of my ancestors from the DNA test from DNA ERA?
No. Unfortunately, our DNA test does not focus on analyzing an individual’s ancestry or ancestry. Our goal is to help people take steps towards a healthier life and lifestyle through DNA analysis. The analysis includes not only the results, but also tips on preventive steps that can be taken to avoid potential problems in the future.
4. How is a DNA sample evaluated?
We send the collected sample in anonymous form, only after the ID code, to our partner, certified laboratory in Denmark. In the laboratory, DNA is isolated from the sample and is subsequently processed through the genotyping process, in which selected polymorphisms (700,000 sites in DNA) are monitored. The output of the laboratory analysis is a data file (RAW data), which we then evaluate using our software, which was developed based on scientific research and knowledge. We perform the data evaluation in Slovakia and also takes place in anonymous form under the ID code (identification code).
5. What happens to my saliva sample after analysis?
The laboratory staff will destroy the saliva sample within 90 days of completion of the analysis. The obtained data on individual polymorphisms will be sent to our company and this data will also be deleted from the laboratory database within 90 days. Since the saliva sample is sent to the laboratory exclusively under the ID code (identification code), the laboratory staff does not know and has no way of finding out whose sample they are currently analyzing. The personal data of our customers does not leave our company.
6. How do you protect customer data?
The protection of our customers’ data is a priority for us and security on our side has several levels. First of all, it should be said that only selected employees have access to customers’ personal data. It is also important to mention that we do not pair the sent collection kit with a specific order. In other words, when we send a collection kit to a customer, we have no idea what ID code is in their collection kit. The registration of the tube takes place only on the customer’s side. So if you exchange a collection kit with a partner, or if you provide a different registration email than when ordering, we have no way of knowing whose analysis we performed. Last but not least, it is necessary to mention the creation of an account and registration of the ID code on our website. After registering the collection kit using the ID code, the entire DNA analysis process and interpretation of the results take place under this ID and the customer’s personal data does not leave our company. It is the obligation of every customer to use two-factor identity verification when logging into their account. When logging in, the customer must enter an SMS code that they will receive on the mobile number entered in the profile.
7. How can I deliver the collection kit back to you?
The price of each of our DNA tests includes sample collection via a prepaid service. Please follow the instructions in our web application carefully regarding sample return. We will notify you by email of the receipt of your sample and you can also find this information in your account in our web application.
8. Do I need to fill in the details on the envelope in which I send the sample back to you??
No, this is not necessary. Complete information on the sample return process can be found by logging into your customer account in the DNA ERA web application. To ensure proper sample delivery, please follow the instructions provided in the application only.
9. What is the result of each analysis and what will I learn from each type of test?
The result of the analysis is information about your DNA. We focus on positions that have been associated with an impact on health, lifestyle, nutrition, appearance or sports in scientific studies. The DNA Complex test contains more than 140 results in 10 categories. The DNA Entry test contains 30 selected predispositions from various categories and serves as an excellent start to the world of DNA or a really useful gift. If you are interested in other results over time, you can simply purchase them in your account and they will then be automatically made available to you. There is no need to repeat the sample collection, as the analysis is based on your existing raw data.
The results of DNA analysis from DNA ERA are intended solely for informational and educational purposes, better self-knowledge or inspiration to improve your lifestyle. This is not diagnostic genetic testing and does not replace healthcare.
10. You provide the obtained data to third parties, or other pharmaceutical companies?
No. DNA ERA does not provide any data to third parties or other companies without the customer’s consent. Only the customer has access to the results, through their account in our web application. The customer can ask us to delete it from the database at any time. DNA ERA aggregates data only for the purpose of further processing and statistics, always in an anonymized form.
